King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council contacted TR Control Solutions Ltd in 2008 looking for a system that would enable them to both monitor and promote their energy performance to both their staff and their customers. It soon became clear that the eco|Driver® system met their requirements and it was purchased for use in the Town Hall (Kings’ Court) and Leisure centre (Lynnsport) in March 2008. The ‘live’ data capture equipment was installed on both electricity and natural gas meters and the system went live in July 2008.
By providing target setting functionality, eco|Driver® has enabled the Energy Officer for the council to set targets for energy usage and then monitor these targets throughout the year. This has enabled the council to achieve its goal of reducing energy consumption and thereby reducing energy cost and associated CO2 emissions.
It is expected that the Display Energy Certificate (DEC) rating for the leisure centre will be improved from a ‘C’ to a ‘B’ in 2009.
Using the system has raised awareness of the need for energy conservation within the council and it has enabled the Energy Officer to identify opportunities for reducing energy waste but also, importantly, to see the impact of the council’s energy and emission minimisation activities.
‘The eco|Driver® project has been excellent in allowing us to closely monitor the savings achieved through greater staff awareness and projects implemented using our Salix ring-fenced funding. The system also allows us to effectively report this information both in real-time at our sites on a display and as monthly reports to the site managers.’
Sam Illsley, Energy Officer, King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council
